Family weekend at the Château de Langeais near Tours

The castle of Langeais, 30 minutes drive from Tours, is a fortified castle built by Louis XI. With its covered way, its drawbridge and its imposing towers, take advantage of a moment of relaxation in Touraine to visit with your family this dwelling decorated with furniture and tapestries from the 15th and 16th centuries. Inspired by the Renaissance on the courtyard side and the feudal period on the town side, this two-faceted historical site offers treasures evoking the history of a seigneurial residence: chests, tapestries, dressers, catharses and sumptuous tiles decorate the twelve rooms of the dwelling…

French history also takes its place here with a royal ceremony of great importance in 1491: the marriage of Anne of Brittany and Charles VII. In this refined residence, this royal couple put an end to the troubles between France and Brittany, and marked the beginning of the attachment of the duchy to the French royalty. With the help of a tour booklet, the whole family can follow the preparations for the Queen’s wedding and daily life in the castle. During this escapade in this jewel of the Loire Valley, a ceremony is reconstituted thanks to wax figures, strikingly realistic, and a “sound and light” show.

Walk and activities for children around the dungeon of Foulques Nerra

A few steps from the castle, around the park, stand the remains of the keep….
Around the year Mi, two great lords, the Count of Anjou Foulques Nerra and the Count of Blois Eudes I, fought over Touraine. At the end of the 10th century, Foulques Nerra conquered the town of Langeais, between Tours and Saumur, and founded a fortress on the banks of the Loire. Charles VII bought it back in 1422, then ordered it to be pulled down, except for the keep. The latter is one of the oldest stone keeps still standing today.

Take a stroll in the park for two and discover the scaffolding and lifting equipment behind the keep, dating from the Middle Ages. Finally, finish your escapade with activities that will delight children of all ages with the playground and the tree house perched in a majestic cedar.

From tasting organic wines from Touraine Azay-Le-Rideau, a dramatised tour, sword fighting, to the operation of one of the last drawbridges still in use… So many invitations for the whole family to follow in the footsteps of Queen Anne of Brittany, to discover or rediscover with your children!
