Château d'Ussé: The Loire Valley castle that never sleeps!

Domaine du Golf - Saumur (49)

Once upon a time, the Château d’Ussé

Situated about 40 minutes by car from the Domaine du Golf, the Château d’Ussé offers you a fairytale excursion that will make both young and old children dream.

Family outing to the land of tales in Indre-et-Loire

Located between the forest of Chinon and the Indre Valley, this historic site is ideal for family outings. Just tell the children that this is the castle that inspired the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty and they will be delighted!

Come and immerse yourself in the life of this illustrious royal castle of the Loire Valley, with its fairy-tale scenes brought to life before your eyes. Built as a stronghold in the Middle Ages, this vestige was transformed over the centuries to become a model of Renaissance architecture and later, in the 17th and 18th centuries, a refined Touraine pleasure residence. The elegance of its architecture, the rarity of its furnishings and the perfect arrangement of its gardens make it a jewel of world heritage, close to the medieval castles of Chinon, Tours and Amboise.

Escape for a weekend and follow in the footsteps of Vauban, Perrault, Chateaubriand, highlighted by mannequins dressed in period costume who give the impression of being expected guests. During the group visit inside the castle, the audiophone guides us in a warm and friendly voice through the magnificent rooms full of history.
We enter the castle through the hall richly furnished with Renaissance chests of drawers and carved wooden panels, then walk up the famous spiral staircase which takes us into the legend and gives access to other magical places of the castle of Aurore. The castle is easily accessible by car or for cyclists wishing to cycle the Loire.

Today, this fairytale-like castle overlooking the Indre et Loire is above all a private residence of the Duke of Bacas and his family, who still live there and maintain this enchanting place with passion.

Dungeon, Gardens, Cellars… A splendour from the inside and the outside!

Don’t go off alone into the depths of the mysteries of the Loire Valley castle!
With friends, family or as a couple, the residence allows you to go on a natural getaway in one of the most beautiful gardens of the Loire designed by Le Notre, the same man who designed the gardens of Versailles. Enough to delight lovers in search of princely moments! In 1664, the Marquis de Valentinay laid out the gardens with regular flower beds and built a beautiful Orangery. In a romantic cocoon, we follow the story of Princess Aurore in the dungeon: from the cellars to the stables, via the prisons and the chapel, it is impossible not to find what you are looking for.

For wine lovers, the cellars date back to the 14th century and are dug into the Tuffeau of Touraine, which provides an ideal temperature for the conservation of wine. Here, traditional and unusual scenes of wine-making and harvesting are recreated. An original wine press and old barrels are on display, bearing witness to the tradition of the region’s wines since the 4th century! At the end of the road, a small chapel dedicated to Saint Vincent, patron saint of winegrowers, closes the gallery of the Château d’Ussé.
