Built by Thibaut the cheat in the 10th century in order to keep his lands, discover during a weekend in our flats at the Domaine du Golf, the Château de Saumur and its region! With your family or as a couple, experience a concentrate of history and charm in the Loire Valley, close to our accommodation and easily accessible by car. Perched on its spur, this former military fortress transformed into a palace and pleasure residence by the Dukes of Anjou, was once a fearsome prison capable of holding hundreds of detainees, then an arms and munitions depot.

Emblematic of the town of Saumur, which it dominates, the master tower of the residence is surrounded by four round towers linked by curtain walls. In 1906, this castle on the Loire was bought by the town, which, after restoring part of it, installed the municipal museum there, which is now a Musée de France.

Still in the process of being renovated, the various additions or reconstructions of the castle will amaze the curious, in search of historical places to discover during a trip to Maine et Loire. More than 2,000 gold leaves were needed to restore this 12-metre high finial filled with fleur-de-lis, placed on the towers, giving it an exceptional cachet.

In July and August, daytime activities are organised for the great pleasure of children! As for the exhibitions, parents will be able to discover the monument and its collections, either freely or accompanied by a guide, who will explain to you the Horse collection resembling objects from antiquity to the beginning of the 20th century, exhibited in the former abbey church. Children can enjoy a fun visit thanks to the booklet of games they will be given on arrival.
